History

In 2013 Rob Goodall (aka Wobbly Bob) moved to Western Australia from the UK and was looking to join a local running club, however, other than WAMC, Masters and Personal Trainers offering to coach people to HBF there was nothing in the local area.

Rob got his running fix down at Rockingham parkrun which had recently started but over time it wasn’t enough, let’s be honest it’s better to run with friends.

On 16 November 2014 Rob created a Facebook Group with friends he’d met through parkrun. The initial idea of the group wasn’t to become a running club it was just a place to exchange ideas about running and maybe arrange the odd training run. The group had about 20 people in it and the first interval session was held at Centenary Park in Waikiki with just three people, Rob, Karen Potts and Pauline Klopper.

From there a regular interval session started which was followed by a beginners/Monday night recovery run. But it was still just a Facebook group. Claudia Wells event director for Rockingham parkrun got involved and with a bit of a discussion in the group, Secret Rocky Runners (SRR) was the name chosen. The idea being that it incorporated everyone from Secret Harbour to Rockingham, however, it soon became clear that people thought it was a Secret Running Group. A little play on words created the clubs tag line…. The secret’s out. After a lot of hard work by Claudia, SRR had its first birthday a ‘timed mile’ held at the WA athletics track in November 2015, club shirts were created and in 2015 SRR was officially incorporated.
